What You Need Before You Sign In
Have your UC username and password ready before you start.
You also need a phone, tablet, or computer with internet access. The official service uses the username and password you set up when you applied. If you cannot remember your username, the sign-in service provides a reminder option.
Quick Login Checklist
Before you open the sign-in page, make sure you have:
- Username
- Password
- Phone, tablet or computer
- Reliable internet connection
Keep your login details private. Only enter them on the official sign-in service.

Check the website before entering your username or password. If you reached the page through a message or search result, make sure it is the official government service.

If you cannot complete the check, see Security Code Help.
Step 5: Access Your Account
Once your details are accepted, you can sign in to your Universal Credit account.
From there, you can check your payment, statement, journal, to-do list, and claimant commitment.
Can I Log In to Universal Credit on My Phone?
Yes. You can access your account from a smartphone, tablet, or computer using a web browser.
Open the official sign-in service and enter your username and password.
If the page does not load properly, check your internet connection and refresh the page. You can also try another browser if the problem continues.
Never enter your login details into an unfamiliar app or website.
Can’t Sign In to Universal Credit?
The right solution depends on what is happening on your screen. Find the problem that best matches your situation.

- If the details still do not work, see Login Problems.
Not Receiving a Security Code?
- Follow the security instructions shown by the official service.
- Make sure you complete each step displayed on screen.

Is the Universal Credit Service Not Working?
- A technical problem can prevent you from signing in.
- Check your internet connection and try opening the official service again.
- If the problem continues, see Service Unavailable.
- Do not use another website claiming to provide an alternative login service.
Why Does My Universal Credit Login Keep Timing Out?
A sign-in session can end if you spend too long on a page or your internet connection drops.
If the page keeps timing out, try these checks:
- Make sure your internet connection is stable
- Close unnecessary browser tabs
- Open the official service again
- Try another browser
- Avoid using an old saved login link
If the problem continues, see Universal Credit Login Problems.
What Can You Do After Signing In?
Once you log in to your account, you can manage important parts.
Depending on your circumstances, you can:
- Check your next payment
- View your statement
- Read and send journal messages
- Check your to-do list
- View your claimant commitment
- Report a change in circumstances
- Apply for an advance where you are eligible
Check Your Statement and Payment
- Your account shows your payment information and statement.
- You can check when your next payment is due and how much you are due to receive.
- Most people receive their payments monthly. Your payment date can change when it falls on a weekend or bank holiday.
Use Your UC Journal
- Your journal is part of your online account.
- You can use it to communicate with your work coach or case manager. You may also receive messages about your claim there.
- Check your journal regularly so you do not miss an important update.
Check Your To-Do List
- Your to-do list shows tasks that need your attention.
- These can include actions linked to your claim or appointments.
- Check it whenever you sign in and complete required tasks.
View Your Claimant Commitment
- Your claimant commitment records what you have agreed to do as part of your claim.
- Your responsibilities depend on your circumstances. You can view your current commitment through your online account.
Report a Change in Circumstances
- Report changes through your online account.
- This can include changes to your work, income, address, or household.
- Keeping your information up to date helps make sure your payment is based on your current circumstances.
Why Is My Universal Credit Payment Lower Than Expected?
If your payment looks lower than expected, check your statement before assuming something is wrong with your account.
Your payment may include deductions for things such as:
- Advance repayments
- Debts
- Other amounts taken from your payment
Your statement is the best place to see what has been taken from your payment and why. If you do not understand a deduction, check the details carefully and contact Universal Credit if you need clarification.
The latest DWP statistics show that around 3.3 million Universal Credit households, or 47%, had one or more deductions in May 2026. The average monthly deduction was £53.
The May 2026 figures are provisional and may be revised in later releases.
New to Universal Credit?
If you have not created an account yet, you need to apply before using the normal sign-in service.
- You must submit your claim within 28 days of creating your account. If you do not complete it within that period, you will need to start again.
- Your first payment is usually made 5 weeks after you claim. If you need help with living costs while waiting, you may be able to apply for an advance.
- If you are starting a new claim, follow the official application instructions rather than trying to use the normal sign-in route.

- Check the service carefully before entering your username or password.
Do I Need GOV.UK One Login?

Can Someone Else Sign In to My Account?
- Your UC account is personal to you
- Do not give another person your username or password.
- Someone you trust can help you use the online service while you remain involved in the process.
